    I know they are both considered to be the same thing but I have been having some problems for the past week and I don't know if it is related or coincidantal. My first month was on the generic, but I switched to brand name - didn't notice a difference in symptoms, but the coating on the brand name is much smoother, the other one started dissolving as soon as I put it in my mouth.     Is Plaquenil a immunosuppressant drug ? Autoimmune. The answer was that while Hydroxychloroquine, the generic name for Plaquenil and the tablet I take in the same dose as yourself i.e. 200mg a day at the moment, is a disease modifying drug and an anti-malarial, it is also a mild immunosuppressant too. So this could be why your immune system is so low at the moment.
